Today I downloaded the new proposed ABCB (Australian Building Codes Board) glazing calculator for NCC2022. I got a bit of a surprise when I saw, what looks like, my zoning pull-down menu on the spreadsheet. They have now incorporated a zoning capability, (Bedroom, Other & Utility zones).
Back in 2011 I developed a glazing calculator as a Performance Solution to use instead of the ABCB calculator.
One of the innovations in my calculator was a zoning capability, (Bedroom, Living & Utility zones).
I have been using, and continually developing my calculator for 10 years, constantly having to justify my method of ‘Building Performance,’ and having many discussions with local authorities and the ABCB. An interesting turn of events today.
A few things to remember:
- Zones are good but are only one part of the calculation.
- The glazing calculation is only one part of energy efficiency.
- Energy efficiency is only one part of Building Performance.
- There is more to windows than just thermal control.
