The title ‘Piltdown Man does Thermal Performance’ is unashamedly a take on Joe Lstiburek’s recent article titled ‘Piltdown Man does Thermal Resistance’. (Google Piltdown Man to understand the reference).
Joe’s article explores the true nature of reflective materials that are often promoted as insulation. It is well worth knowing what works and what doesn’t work if you are intending to achieve a good building performance outcome…….as opposed to pretending to achieve a good outcome.
I think Joe would have a brain aneurism if he saw the part of our new energy code that encourages conductive heat flow through the building fabric….in conjunction with ‘mass & glass’.
